Pennavel, the consortium composed of Elicio France and BayWa r.e., was announced on 15 May as the winning bidder in the A05 tender for South Brittany’s 250 MW floating wind farm: Bretagne Ocean Power welcomes this announcement!

On 15 May, Bruno Le Maire, France’s Minster of the Economy, Finance and Industrial and Digital Sovereignty, Roland Lescure, Minister Delegate for Industry and Energy, and Hervé Berville, Secretary of State for the Sea and Biodiversity, announced that Pennavel, created through the consortium formed by Elicio France and BayWa r.e. EMEA, had been selected to develop South Brittany’s floating offshore wind farm.

This 250 MW wind farm will generate enough electricity to meet the needs of around 450,000 inhabitants. It will be connected to the grid by RTE, France’s transmission system operator, responsible for managing the offshore substation and power cables. Pennavel has stated that it intends to be particularly attentive to local content and sustainable development.

Bretagne Ocean Power welcomes this outcome and is delighted that the bidding process is complete, meaning that the operating phase can now begin. Bretagne Ocean Power is ready to work together with Pennavel to support the implementation of this ambitious project. This very first commercial-scale offshore floating wind farm is set to drive the development of a new industrial sector in France. Local companies and ports are at the ready, in particular BrestPort where the floats will be assembled. After 3 years of working alongside Elicio France and BayWa r.e. EMEA and given the commitment made by Pennavel through the signing of the industrial local content commitment charter, we are confident that the consortium will make best use of French supply chains. We also know we can count on the French State to ensure compliance with these commitments towards the national industrial sector, a condition on which acceptance of this project by stakeholders, and more broadly the general public, hinges.
