The consortium formed by TotalEnergies and RWE has been awarded the Centre Manche 2 tender to design, develop, build and operate a giant offshore wind farm with a capacity of 1.5 gigawatts (GW), located more than 40 kilometres off the coast of Normandy.
The French Minister for Industry and Energy has named the Cotentin Energies Marines consortium, formed by
TotalEnergies and RWE, as the winner of the tender for the offshore wind farm located off the coast of Normandy (AO8) known as ‘Centre Manche 2’.
Located more than 40 km off the coast, in the Bay of Seine, near the previous Centre-Manche 1 wind farm project, this second project will bring the wind power capacity under development in the ‘Centre Manche’ area to around 2.5 GW, with the aim of producing, by the early 2030s, the equivalent of the electricity consumption of around 2 million French households by the early 2030s.
TotalEnergies will be the project operator, drawing on its expertise in offshore wind power and the management of large offshore energy projects. TotalEnergies will continue the necessary studies in order to make a final investment decision in early 2029. Electricity production is expected to start in 2033, in line with RTE’s connection schedule.
The price offered by the consortium is €66/MWh.
In line with previous calls for tenders, the consortium has made commitments to the local economy and the environment (notably through the recycling of wind turbines, including blades and magnets, and the use of SMEs). It has also indicated that it will give preference to wind turbines and cables manufactured in Europe. Good news, according to France Offshore Renewables, the representative of the French supply chain.
